UPC PRESS RELEASE

The Universities Pool Council is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth, who will provide a fitting new home for the BUCS-UPC Eight-ball Pool Championships.

Regarded by many as the premier pool venue in the UK, Vauxhall Holiday Park has hosted many major pool competitions over the last twenty years and currently host the major events in the EPA calendar such as the National Intercounty Championships, National Interleague Championships and Champion of Champion events. Pool events at "Yarmouth" have built up great kudos due to the atmosphere in the playing arena and the social aspect of the "pool village" with all participants and supporters staying on site.

The key development for the UPC calendar is that for the first time it will be possible to hold all the events – Team Championship/Trophy, Team Shield and Individual Championship – on the same weekend, in the same venue. This opens the door for new entrants to the BUCS-UPC Shield with the enhanced status of the event, the opportunity to share transport costs and not forgetting the team building for University squads in the "pool village!” Furthermore, the BUCS-UPC Individual Championship will be opened up to its largest ever field so it promises to be a highly competitive weekend.

The event will be held on 36 competition standard Supreme tables with an additional 20 practice tables available for use. The BUCS-UPC eight-ball weekend will be held on 19-22 February 2009 in the 2008-09 season.

The UPC are maintaining their partnership with Riley’s who will continue to host the UPC Nine-ball and Women’s Eight-ball Pool Championships at their excellent Solihull and Coventry Hertford Place venues respectively.

UPC Communications Director Dave Graham said, "We are absolutely delighted that Vauxhall Holiday Park have chosen to welcome the UPC eight-ball events to their esteemed venue. For our event to justify the scale and prestige of Vauxhall is testament to the growth of university pool in the last five years and this move can only support this. This move means that the event joins the “premier league” of pool tournaments in the UK and gives students an experience many pool players throughout the country strive for each season. These are exciting times for the students with the desire to win surely being raised a notch! "
